Cuts, scrapes, slices and dices - no, it’s not the new SuperChopper Fantasy Knife, but the ultra-freaky turntablism techniques of the Vinyl Interventions Trio: Carrie Gates, Marinko Jareb, and Esther…
The vinyl record is the center of this album, the result of an exploration and an application of a study of contemporary sculpture, sound art, pop culture, inspired by media…
While working in contemporary visual and sound art as an independent curator and writer, Esther B also plays the toy turntable, (man) handles vinyl records, and records soundscapes. She has performed in Canada and the USA; additionally, her works have been presented in England, Germany, and Palestine. Improvisation allows her to create raw, non-linear music peppered with altered sonic quotes and abstracted sounds, textures mostly produced by vinyls that have undergone specific alterations (grinding, cutting, etc.). She is a member of the turntable trio Vinyl Interventions with Carrie Gates (Saskatoon) and Marinko Jareb (St Catherines, Ontario). This outfit has been presenting its eponymous workshop since 2002. Esther B also organizes concert series devoted to improvised music for acoustic instruments. Aimé Dontigny, Gordon Allen, Olivier Borzeix, Isaiah Ceccarelli, Léon Lo, Philippe Lauzier, Erin Sexton, and David Turgeon are some of the musicians she likes working with.
